Turkish Nights

I can't believe the hoops you have to jump thru to buy a house. I mean, we're putting 25% CASH down, we've lived in the same place for 16 years, have established jobs (10 yrs for me and 18 yrs for him), we have children in schools here, we've provided every little nosy bit of info they ask of us and then 24 hours before signing, I find out I have to prove where the first $3000 (good faith deposit) came from. This is amazing. THEN: 4:30pm on a Thursday, somebody calls wanting to do an employee verification on ME--and guess who's the ONLY supervisor on duty right then? ME! My immediate supervisor won't be back for a week. OMG, I can't stand it. This lady on the phone basically said "well, I know you work there," (Oh, you think? All those copies of paycheck stubs you wanted and AUTOMATIC DEPOSITS into my bank account didn't fool you, did they?!)

So now, a house that was supposed to have been signed for on Oct. 22, then Oct. 24, is now set to be signed for on Oct. 28. The house is ready, the money is ready, WE'RE ready, for crying out loud--what's the big deal?! You should see my house. Oh, Calgon take me away. Boxes everywhere, piles of stuff waiting for boxing, new stuff for the new house sitting around. I found this wonderful deal on silk trees? Bought 4. Now it's like a jungle in the old house, cuz there's no room for all that. I walked in the other night and it came to me: Turkish Bazaar! That's what we're living in the middle of. Shades of Arabian nights. All it lacks is a little man with a flute (or whatever they call them) conjuring a cobra out of basket. Could be one and I'm just not seeing it, I suppose. (OH, I know, I've got my ethnic groups and my geography all wonky but I'm painting a oral painting here. Get a grip.)

I'm gonna pack something tonight after work then I swear to God, I'm sitting down on MY couch, with MY cat, surrounded by MY family and gonna watch a movie. That is, if we can find the DVD player. And the remote...and the cat....
